Biography

Larry Edwards is an isotope geochemist well-known for his role in the development of modern uranium-thorium (or Th-230) dating methods and his application of these methods to the study of climate history and ocean chemistry. His approaches have improved the accuracy of radiocarbon dating, with the long-sought goal of a complete calibration of the radiocarbon timescale now in sight.

Two Neptune ICP Mass Spectrometers

Our lab specializes in the Uranium/Thorium disequilibrium dating of carbonate samples. Our new clean room includes 10 workbenches, 3 fume hoods, and 2 centrifuges for use in the U/Th purification and separation procedure. Attached to the clean room are the sample weighing room, a super-clean room for U/Pb chemistry procedures, and the acid cleaning room where we clean and prepare all of our chemistry equipment. Our lab has two Neptune ICP Mass Spectrometers currently in use for measuring Uranium and Thorium isotopes.
